WATCH: Foreign ministers from small and big countries can learn a lot from one another by exchanging knowledge and experience. Palau’s Foreign Minister Faustina Rehuher-Marugg calls for more attention to be paid to the needs of small countries, and for the UN Security Council to pay greater attention to nature-based threats to security.

"Small countries’ foreign ministers and big countries’ foreign ministers – there needs to be an established dialogue so that they can learn from small countries. We learn from big countries because it has to be a dialogue, it has to be communication. For preparation, for knowledge base sharing and for resilience – early warning systems. Because those are actually some of the tools that are needed.

Those must happen before we can really take action. There really needs to be, for us small island countries, needs to be a really major central reform because attention needs to be paid to small countries, small island states.

And so the Security Council must address the needs from not just the war-torn countries but as well as nature-based types of disaster."
